Mondi, a leading global provider of sustainable packaging and paper solutions, has introduced FlexiBag Reinforced, a new line of recyclable packaging. These mono-PE-based bags are designed to contribute to a circular economy, being recyclable where collection and recycling systems for PE films are available.
The FlexiBag Reinforced range, developed in-house by Mondi, offers improved mechanical properties, including better puncture resistance, stiffness, and sealability. These features make the bags suitable for various applications, including the pet food industry, by providing adjustable barrier protection against fat, oxygen, and moisture to keep contents fresh.
Mondi emphasizes the product’s alignment with future regulatory requirements, incorporating a customizable percentage of post-consumer recycled (PCR) content. This approach reduces the use of virgin plastics and enhances material efficiency by keeping materials in circulation. Dirk Gabriel, COO Consumer Flexibles at Mondi, stated, “With FlexiBag Reinforced, we can offer a solution that approaches the material costs of conventional multi-material laminates while providing recyclable packaging that gives our customers a competitive advantage.”

A notable example of FlexiBag Reinforced in action is its use by mera, a family-owned German pet food producer. Mera has successfully introduced FlexiBag Reinforced, containing 35% PCR content, for its 10kg packs of vegan dry dog food. The transition was seamless as the new packaging was compatible with mera’s existing machinery.
