Esko introduces AVT Varnish Inspection and defect detection module ahead of drupa

Esko’s AVT Varnish Inspection module revolutionizes label printing, boosting efficiency and reducing waste.

Esko has unveiled a new print inspection module designed to inspect and detect defects in varnish coatings during live label print runs, marking a significant advancement in varnish inspection for printed labels.

The innovative Varnish Inspection module, part of the AVT Helios 100% inspection system, enables label converters to maximize output while reducing waste in the print production process. This solution offers unmatched accuracy and requires no UV additives to the varnish, providing broad compatibility and increased efficiency.

Jan De Roeck, Director of Marketing, Industry Relations & Strategy at Esko, highlighted the module’s importance in addressing key priorities for labels converters. He stated, “With raw material costs at an all-time high and the pressure for all businesses to become more sustainable, reducing waste while maximizing throughput is a top priority.” He emphasized the efficiency gained by inspecting the varnish coat during a narrow web run without slowing or stopping the process.

Traditionally, inspecting varnish coatings has been a time-consuming process, often requiring the use of a light box and UV additives, which are not allowed in many applications. The new Varnish Inspection module automates this process, optimizing accuracy, safety, and convenience.

The module offers broad compatibility, working seamlessly with various types of varnish coatings, including matt, glossy, or tactile finishes. It detects varnish coating defects such as misregister, partial and full varnish starvation, immediately improving efficiency and reducing waste.

Jan De Roeck highlighted the user-friendly interface of the module, making it accessible for both existing users of the AVT inspection system and new operators. He emphasized Esko’s commitment to delivering solutions that enhance productivity, quality, and waste reduction for businesses in the packaging industry.

The new Esko AVT Varnish Inspection module will be showcased at drupa 2024. Attendees can visit booth #A12, Hall 8B of the Messe Düsseldorf from May 28 to see the module in action and learn more about Esko’s latest innovations.
