Phoenix Contact has announced the introduction of new product labels aimed at simplifying automated goods receipt and goods issue processes for its customers. The labels, designed to optimize logistics operations, display essential information such as item number, quantity, production date, batch, and country of origin as a 1D bar code and/or a 2D data matrix code.
The automated scanning of these codes is expected to increase productivity in goods receipt and goods issue by reducing the manual workload of logistics staff. The new product label meets the requirements set by the manufacturers and distributors who are members of the ECIA (Electronic Components Industry Association), ensuring that all mandatory information is displayed as scan codes.
Despite the redesign, Phoenix Contact has retained the compact format of the previous labels, emphasizing sustainability and cost efficiency. The new product label is set to become the current corporate standard and will be used across the entire standard product portfolio at Phoenix Contact. During the transition period, shipments will contain a mixture of label formats.
Michaela Fritz, Vice President Warehouse Operations & Supply Chain Programs at TTI, a key customer, praised Phoenix Contact’s collaborative approach in defining the new label: “Working with Phoenix Contact to define the new label was very effective. Our requirements were implemented in a collaborative process and, in the future, will lead to the efficient flow of goods in goods receipt and goods issue.”
The new product labels are expected to streamline logistics processes for Phoenix Contact’s customers, marking a significant step forward in the company’s commitment to enhancing operational efficiency.
