In a joint endeavor led by the Egyptian Ministry of Environment and the Arab Bureau for Youth and Environment, Egypt is set to launch a national campaign called “No to Plastic” during the last week of July 2023. The campaign, under the auspices of Dr. Yasmine Fouad, Minister of Environment, aims to raise awareness about the harmful impact of single-use plastic products, foster public understanding of the health and environmental risks associated with plastic waste, and underscore the significance of reducing plastic consumption.
Dr. Imad El-Din Adly, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Arab Bureau for Environment and Development, highlighted the campaign’s objectives in promoting public consciousness regarding the dangers posed by plastic waste and encouraging a shift towards more sustainable alternatives. As part of the initiative, an extensive social media campaign will be launched to educate the public about the detrimental effects of plastic usage and to advocate for the adoption of eco-friendly alternatives to single-use plastics.
Furthermore, the campaign will encompass a series of cleaning drives across different governorates, with a particular emphasis on beach cleanups. Additionally, awareness activities will be conducted within schools, universities, and youth centers to engage students and citizens in environmental preservation efforts and promote a healthier ecosystem for all.
Egypt’s “No to Plastic” campaign reflects the nation’s proactive stance in addressing plastic pollution and striving for sustainable practices. By fostering awareness and implementing impactful initiatives, Egypt is taking significant steps towards combating plastic waste and safeguarding the environment for future generations.
