Rashed Saud Al Shamsi elected as GPCA chairman

The Gulf Petrochemicals and Chemicals Association (GPCA) has announced the appointment as its new chairman of His Excellency Rashed Saud Al Shamsi.
Formerly vice chairman of GPCA, Al Shamsi steps into the shoes of Mohamed Al Mady, who was recently appointed as the chairman of the General Organisation for Military Industries through a royal decree issued by His Royal Highness King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud, King of Saudi Arabia.

“The legacy left by Eng. Mohamed Al Mady is a superb example to follow, and I am honoured to have been selected to continue driving the influential nature of the association to further establish its position as a predominant authority in the petrochemicals field,” said Rashed Saud Al Shamsi.
Having held the position of vice chairman of the GPCA since 2012, Al Shamsi is highly familiar with the association and its goals. He assumed his new role immediately, following a rigorous voting process by GPCA’s full member companies.
“Under the guidance of Mohamed Al Mady, who chaired the association since its launch in 2006, GPCA has flourished and reached new heights,” said Dr Abdulwahab Al-Sadoun, secretary general of the association.
“We offer him our sincere thanks for his visionary leadership, and congratulate him on his new appointment.”
As director of petrochemicals at the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), a leading oil company, Al Shamsi has nearly 30 years of experience in the region’s downstream sector.
Al Shamsi’s current roles include chairing the board of Fertil (Ruwais Fertilisers Industries), a leading and fast- expanding fertiliser company.
He is also chairman of the board of Borouge Pte Ltd, the marketing arm of Abu Dhabi Polymers Company (Borouge), a leading provider of innovative, value creating plastics solutions for the infrastructure, automotive and advanced packaging markets, as well as vice chairman of the board of Borouge.
“We have every confidence that not only is he the right man for the job, but also he will continue to foster the GPCA’s key values of advocacy, networking and thought leadership,” said Dr Al-Sadoun.
