Vegware, a compostable food packaging specialist now present in the UAE, has been named Scotland’s Most Innovative Exporter for 2014.
The Edinburgh-based firm – which claims to be ‘the UK’s first and only completely compostable food packaging firm’ – makes products such as coffee cups, food cartons and salad boxes that can be recycled after use along with food waste.
Vegware recently arrived in the UAE through a partnership with Horeca Trade and also markets its eco-friendly products worldwide through Vegware US, Vegware South Africa, Vegware Europe, Vegware Australia, and Friendlypak in New Zealand.
Recently named Scotland’s third fastest-growing company by Deloitte, Vegware has expanded its turnover in the past five years by 901%.
At the presentation of the export award on 28 May, Vegware group recycling consultant Eilidh Brunton said Vegware is “at the forefront of helping businesses maximise recycling”.
“Together with exporting our certified compostable takeaway packaging, we are also exporting our Scottish expertise to boost sustainability in the five continents we operate in,” she said.
